Purpose
Skiffs are simple, open, shallow-draft hulls — often flat or modified-V bottoms for poling, casting, and light tackle in skinny water. Less specialized than a dedicated flats boat, more utilitarian than a bay boat.
Best suited for
- Flats, backwaters, and skinny coastal creeks
- 1–3 anglers with light tackle
- Beginner to intermediate in shallow water
- Trailering behind smaller tow vehicles

- 15–17 ft — solo or two anglers, cartopper or small trailer
- Standard skiffs
- 18–20 ft — most common skinny-water size
- Larger skiffs
- 21–23 ft — more range while staying relatively shallow
