Boat type

Center console

Purpose

Center consoles put the helm in the middle with walkaround deck space for fishing. The hull is typically 18–30+ feet, built for inshore and nearshore work — bays, passes, light offshore. Not a pontoon, not a bowrider with lounge seating.

Best suited for

  • Coastal bays, inlets, and light offshore (model-dependent)
  • Serious fishing with 2–6 crew
  • Intermediate to experienced boaters
  • Trailered day boats through larger kept-on-trailer or slip boats

Size options

Trailerable inshore
18–22 ft — tow behind a half-ton, two to four anglers
Mid-size coastal
23–27 ft — more range and seakeeping, may need bigger tow rig
Larger coastal / offshore
28 ft+ — often slip-kept, multi-day capable
