Registration & numbering
Most states require title or registration for motorized boats. Hull identification numbers (HIN) and state decals rules vary — check your state boating agency.
Operator education
Many states require a boater education card for certain ages or horsepower. NASBLA-approved courses are the usual path; requirements differ by state.
Safety equipment
Federal rules set baseline gear (life jackets, fire extinguishers, visual distress signals, etc.). State and local rules can add requirements by waterbody.
Trailering
Boat trailer registration, lighting, and weight limits are state DMV matters. Wide loads may need permits on some roads.
Insurance & financing
Lenders and insurers often ask for surveys, HIN verification, and agreed values. This shelf will grow with plain-language owner notes — not quotes or rates.
