Boat type

Jet boat

Purpose

Jet boats use impeller drives instead of exposed propellers — shallow draft, quick acceleration, and ability to run in rivers with debris. Popular on Western rivers and for beach launching. Not a standard sterndrive runabout.

Best suited for

  • Shallow rivers, whitewater sections, and rocky streams
  • Beach launching and surf-zone access
  • Adventure and utility use with 4–8 passengers
  • Intermediate boaters familiar with jet handling

Size options

Compact jet boats
16–18 ft — two to four passengers, trailerable
Mid-size jet boats
19–22 ft — most common river and lake size
Larger jet boats
23 ft+ — more seating and river-running capability
